National Independence and Children's Day of Turkey is an important national holiday in Turkey, celebrated on April 23 every year. This day has two main themes: Turkish independence and children's rights.

History
April 23 is associated with a historical event that took place in 1920. On this day, the Turkish Grand National Assembly (GNAT) was opened in Ankara under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who became the founder of modern Turkey. This event symbolized the beginning of Turkey's national independence, and since then, this day has become the basis for celebrating national sovereignty and national unity.

Atatürk also declared April 23 as Children's Day to emphasize the importance of the younger generation for the future of the country. In 1929, he proposed that this day be made an official holiday for children, making them part of the national celebrations, as well as celebrating their rights and freedoms.

How the holiday is celebrated
Celebrations. On this day, parades and celebrations are held to celebrate independence and children. In major cities, including Istanbul and Ankara, mass marches, rallies and military parades are held to highlight patriotism and national unity.

School ceremonies. Special events are held in all educational institutions in Turkey to celebrate children and their rights. Schoolchildren perform songs, poems and dances, and participate in various competitions and performances.

Attending official events. On this day, children also visit parliament and other government institutions. In the capital, Ankara, a ceremony is held where children can meet members of the government and even take part in a symbolic transfer of power.

International exchanges and visits. On Children's Day, Turkey also invites children from other countries to strengthen international ties and promote peace and friendship among nations.
